There are many benefits to adding a ride plate...
The plate makes the boat longer while creating a lower surface for the boat to ride on, which effectively raises the tail of the boat and reduces the wetted surface, reducing friction.  You also gain the plate adjustability.
The shoe helps direct more water into the intake.  All of these attributes assist in performance.
Some boats will require trimming above the ride plate.
